Just Who Do I Think I Am?

Somewhere between burn-out & quarter-life crisis, I realized I couldn’t make up my mind about much of anything. Analysis paralysis was my strategy, and my mission was to talk ideas (but seldom act on them).

A piece of advice. If you ever want to work from home, get organized first and find a routine that suits you.

Those two things don’t get easier once you break out of a micromanaged environment and into YOU being the boss of YOU.

[Also – you won’t get it right the first time. Embrace your experimenting, and don’t fret or fear ditching something that is just not working for you.]

Back to the point.

More than a piece of advice, my inner and inherent Tiger Mom is telling you this:

Get your values in order.

Literally. It’s a two-step process.
1. Identify your values.
2. Number them 1 through 5 by level of importance.

Here are mine. Figuring them out cured my analysis-paralysis, and put me on a path to the most intentional part of my life I’ve yet lived.

1. Health
2. Integrity
3. Meaningful work
4. Education
5. Financial freedom

So, to answer the question (Just who do I think I am?) -

I am a person who puts my health first. I have an undeniable devotion to meaningful work and always-learning. I believe there's such a thing as getting paid well to do them. Lastly, whatever I say, and whatever I do comes full-circle: I say what I mean, mean what I say, and follow-through (that’s the integrity part).

Now the question is, just who do you think you are?

Why any of this matters.

Knowing what you value and in what order can be a gauge in explaining why you're just not satisfied. Further, it gives you a means to a solution - perhaps you're not living what you claim to value. You can begin to fix that by identifying the disconnects, and seeking a new path that brings you closer to what matters most to you.

Reading is nice. Doing is better.
